ELECTROMAGNETIC WORKING GROUP plan of activity for 2017 =======================================

1) Infrastructure and general support for EM physics for LHC

  • perform regular execution and regression analysis using existing testing suites (1/2)
  • Addition of CMS HGCAL testbeam into testing suite (1/2)
  • ATLAS tilecal problem (1/2) *
  • ATLAS EM shower shape (1/2) *
  • addition of CALICE calorimeter to testing suite (1/2) *

2) Infrastructure and general support for new HEP facilities

  • Evaluation or usage of Geant4 rare processes for muon backgrounds for CLIC and R&D studies for FCC (1/2)
  • Extention of Synchrotron radiation process simulation for FCC (angular distribution, X-ray reflection) (1/2)
  • Evaluation on existing models and R&D on possible new for search of particles beyond the Standard Model (1/2)
  • Study on effect of high energy muon scattering due to high energy radiative processes (1)

3) Validation and verification of EM physics

  • Extended testing suite - migration to cmake, to Geant4 internal analysis software, and migration to MT where possible (1/2)
  • Migration of testing suite to ROOT6 and out of afs (1/2) *
  • continue detailed comparison of Standard, Livermore, Penelope, and DNA models [LE] (1/2)
  • migration of EM and medical examples to multi-threading (1/2)

4) Further development of the processes of multiple and single scattering:

  • further development of the Goudsmit-Saunderson model (1)
  • introduce relativistic corrections to WVI and SS models (1)
  • evaluate WVI performance with 2nd order corrections enabled (2)
  • study on of the displacement beyond boundary algorithm (1) (*)

5) Further update of ionization processes:

  • review model for sampling fluctuations of e+- (1/2)
  • refinement of effective ion charge approach (2) (*)
  • alternative ion ionisation models for moderate energies (2) (*)

6) Bremsstrahlung and gamma models:

  • incorporation of the three gamma annihilation (1)
  • review and improvement of Seltzer-Berger model (1)
  • introduce bremsstrahlung on atomic electrons at high and moderate energies [LE] (1/2)
  • validation and improvement of the gamma conversion models including cross section and final state generation in the full energy range [LE] (1/2)
  • migration to the recent data for atomic shells (1) [LE] (*)
  • introduce direction splitting for bremsstrahlung (2)
  • switch EM models to the recent data on atomic shells (1/2) (*)
  • update Compton scattering model adding radiative corrections (2) (*)

7) Optical photon physics

  • Extension to the unified surface model to have both specular and diffuse components for the transmitted photons (2)
  • Modeling of optical transport in a volume that has different optical treatments on different sides (2)
